Author and former New York Post writer, Susanah Cahalan, was diagnosed with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. This is an acute inflammation of the brain caused by autoimmunity. This diagnosis may also be considered in a differential diagnosis for HE/SREAT and can share symptoms, such as hallucinations and seizures.
