It is important to note that not all persons who develop HE/SREAT have or will develop autoimmune thyroid disease. While both conditions often co-exist, there is still not a clear link between thyroid antibodies and HE/SREAT.
Women with HE/SREAT have been known to conceive healthy off-spring, it can be a special concern for pregnant women. The thyroid antibodies that are present in elevated numbers in HE/SREAT mothers can cross the placenta.
